Types of Phrasal Verbs

  1. Prepositional Phrasal Verbs: These verbs are followed by a preposition. For example:

    • Turn down: To refuse something.
    • Look after: To take care of someone or something.
  2. Adverbial Phrasal Verbs: These verbs are followed by an adverb. For example:

    • Break in: To enter a place without permission.
    • Look up: To search for information.
  3. Separable Phrasal Verbs: These verbs can be separated. The object comes after the verb. For example:

    • Hand in: To submit something.
    • Turn on: To switch something on.
  4. Inseparable Phrasal Verbs: These verbs cannot be separated. The object comes before the verb. For example:

    • Call off: To cancel something.
    • Give up: To stop trying.
