Types of Phrasal Verbs
Prepositional Phrasal Verbs: These verbs are followed by a preposition. For example:
- Turn down: To refuse something.
- Look after: To take care of someone or something.
Adverbial Phrasal Verbs: These verbs are followed by an adverb. For example:
- Break in: To enter a place without permission.
- Look up: To search for information.
Separable Phrasal Verbs: These verbs can be separated. The object comes after the verb. For example:
- Hand in: To submit something.
- Turn on: To switch something on.
Inseparable Phrasal Verbs: These verbs cannot be separated. The object comes before the verb. For example:
- Call off: To cancel something.
- Give up: To stop trying.
