Two-Factor Authentication (TFA) adds an additional layer of security to your account by requiring two methods of authentication from separate categories of credentials. This helps protect your account from unauthorized access.
How TFA Works
- First Factor - Password: This is the traditional username and password combination.
- Second Factor - Second Method: This could be a temporary code sent to your mobile device, a hardware token, or a biometric factor like fingerprint or facial recognition.
By requiring both factors, even if someone knows your password, they would still need the second factor to access your account.
Enabling TFA
To enable TFA, follow these steps:
- Log in to your account.
- Navigate to the security settings page.
- Look for the TFA option.
- Follow the instructions to set up your second factor.
Common TFA Methods
- SMS: A temporary code is sent to your phone via SMS.
- Email: A temporary code is sent to your email address.
- Authentication App: Use an app like Google Authenticator or Authy to generate a temporary code.
- Hardware Token: A physical device that generates a temporary code.
Tips for Using TFA
- Always keep your second factor device or app with you.
- Regularly update your second factor app to ensure it's secure.
- If you lose your second factor device, contact support immediately to disable TFA.
